Continued from last email (Pt 2/2)
Here are some objections I often hear when it comes to signing up for workshops.
Honestly, I've had the same ones too in my journey as a dancer.
Reason 1 "I don't have enough training."
My skill level in Contact skyrocketed in residencies, of 3 weeks to a month long, or 5 day festivals. I was a"beginner" by all means before then. Current is a week, with 5 day option. I tell dancers in my workshops, training is equally important as practicing. You learn guitar in a guitar class.. but then you have to practice. Same same. I took classes in Contact at a CI meets contemporary dance company in Canada for a year before I even went to a Jam. I could have gone sooner. You learn by learning. And by doing.
Reason 2 "I can't afford it / don't have time".
I hear you, and I'm in the same boat as the most of you. Two months ago, I invested in going to Thailand to teach / dance in a month long intensive, because I knew it would be amazing and life changing. That experience was irreplaceable. I cried when I arrived so many times, and cried much more leaving, in gratitude. I knew I could make money later. I feel SO full on the abundance of connection that I had, that will stay with me for years to come. No regrets. I know not everyone lives this way. This year has been stressful for me personally (my mom passed of cancer last December) and financially. Yet I keep investing in what makes my heart sing (dance) and what balances my nervous system and contributes to well being (connection, creation, nature). Because it would be dark(er) days without these in my life. I invest in what's light and what feels right. I am in a place of trust in life, knowing experience is what will come with me to the grave, not paper. Time and money are an illusion.
Reason 3 "I don't know who will be there".
"Who will be there?" Vs. "I want to take this opportunity for myself, to invest in myself, while it's here." Attitude one is a popularity contest, which feeds itself on the "values" of being seen and approval. Attitude two is your inner compass, your desire, and imagining both "What if I didn't go" and "What if I went?".
This is our last call. To confirm if it will happen or not.

W H Y C U R R E N T ? (Pt 1/2)Because I've transformed. Some of the fondest memories of my life are with Contact dancers in residencies, the relationships built when we are co-living together for longer periods of time.I teach, because of these experiences.Recess - Saltspring - Leviathan - Arambol - KPN.We need this here in Bali. What we are doing in Ubud is not co-living.
